Do you hear voices? You know, those little nagging voices in your head that whisper, “You’re not beautiful. Look at yourself: you were so much prettier when you were younger.” I hear them too, and no, neither one of us are crazy.
I have a name for those horrible little voices, those minions of Satan: Nerdbuckets. I don’t want to give them too much power, so I’ve chosen a name that is slightly ridiculous and funny, so that I can laugh at them, just as they deserve. For the truth is, they are not real. They speak lies and falsehoods, and deserve no more attention than to acknowledge them, then move on.
These nerdbuckets want us to feel diminished, small, and less-than. They will try to find any little chink in our defenses, and wriggle their little wormy way in. They win whenever we compare ourselves to others (be it in a good or bad way), or tear ourselves down.
Ain’t nobody got time for that nonsense, especially the beautiful daughters (and sons!) of God that we all are!
Here’s the voice you should be listening to: you are beautiful. You matter. You have a place in this world, a mission, and God has a plan for you. Now go out there and make it happen!
